If you think it’s been a problem up to this point, the fight against fake news is about to get a whole lot harder thanks to artificial intelligence. You’ve probably seen examples of this “deep fake” technology in videos on the internet. It’s been used in many ways, from putting Steve Buscemi and Nicolas Cage’s faces on pretty much any actor from any movie, to being used as a cautionary tale for fake news. Buzzfeed joined forces with actor Jordan Peele to demonstrate how scary this technology can be, and how we need to be careful about what we see -- and believe -- on the internet, even if it looks legitimate.
The AI technology that is creating these so-called “deep fake” videos has become more convincing at a rate that is terrifying.
